Sydney Biennale- has anyone been to see it?
i went to see it the other day, i didn't have time to see everything there, which is a shame, because apparently there was a lot of stuff that i missed.
What did y'all think of it? I thought some stuff was really good, like the exploding car, and that freaky time-lag thing of the man doing tai-chi,
but i found alot of it to be really heavily conceptual, and becaue i don't have a PhD, i didn't understand alot of it. And even some of the abstract paintings were alittle boring. Although, there was some good stuff there, i'd advocate going to see it.

Did anyone else get this feeling? that there wasn't enough stuff there for the non-intellectual types?

Unfortunatly Spiffy that is how most artists do stuff these days, its all heavily conceptual, and the viewer has to take from it what they want. You dont need any degree to understand the work, just your feelings and ideas and anything else that you take from the work, is what it is about.

I am studying an Fine Arts degre at the moment, and I know that is how most of the teachers want you to do stuff. It is good in an studying sense, because you can be lazy and just BullSh*t your way into getting a good mark. :P But with total freedom, comes boring unexplainable work... anways, just my current thought.

Also you dont have to like everything. I am pretty vocal when I dont like an artwork or perfomance. It is often harder to explain why you dont like it, then be a sheep and just agree with everyone else.

I went to the Beinale, liked alot of the work. the Tai Chi guy was definatly one of the best! the Car was good also. I think was great was just the setting that then instalations were put in, such great places to exhibit work. I also liked the one with the communist leader's bodies.. 'G5 summit' or something... was cool with Castro sleeping.

If you liked these works, then go and see Sculpture by the Sea, when its on, cool stuff there also.

The setting was amazing! just looking at the old machinery and rooms was one of the best parts. Definetly given me some weathering inspiration.

Also, did you notice that the piano-gallows were devoteed to chaos?

This is really awesome, a Stop-Motion video filmed for four months in an abandoned space... it is crazy.

That's a great one Kyle! I really love how the internet and affordable recording and editing equipment has allowed artists to branch out into interesting mediums/processes.

in the stop-motion vein, here's a guy (I think he's either german or spanish) called Blu.. does some wicked painted stop-motion all over buildings and walls and stuff in the street.

i have no idea how he gets away with painting over everything!

I am really not sure where to put this, but I guess it is art.... or is it a model?

I posted this on Facebook, but I should have posted it here also.

http://acidolatte.blogspot.com/2009/06/valerie-hegarty.html?zx=484b35a7d015972

Valerie Hegarty produces work that constructs and deconstructs experience.
She explores the possibility of fabricating and altering objects with historical reference in order to highlight the past's relation to the current American socio-political arena.

Obviously this is really outdated now... but finally got around to watching Banksy's film "Exit Through the Gift Shop". What an amazing film. I really wish I had of seen it at the cinemas now.. :( I really didnt know what to expect from it, but it by far exceded any expectations I had heard or was hoping for. Throughly recommend seeing it!
