I owe Games World at Knox City shopping centre a big thanks for introducing me to painted miniatures all those years ago. They had some neatly painted eldar guardians in their cabinet that just blew me away. It sparked my imagination in a way that only a child can appreciate. The other little treasure I found was a calendar made by the now defunct mini company Metal Magic. The dioramas this calendar contained were fantastic, even by today's standards. I've included a few pics for anyone who remembers or is interested.

ah those were the days...

like most things still in their (relative) infancy, they were much less complex and there were far less preconceptions on what constituted a good miniature (or paint job).

i feel old...

I have fond memories and fair few of those minis lying around. Any chance you could scan in the pics from the calendar. I think I still have one of their catalogs floating around. I believe a US mob bought a bunch of their molds and are still making the fantasy figures.

Each page is just slightly larger than A3 in size so each picture will be divided into 2 scans. I will have to merge them in photoshop and optimise the file size for photobucket.

I'll scan in the January pic tomorrow and post it up so that I can get your feedback before doing the other months.

Here are the January images. My photoshop skills are quite basic which is why the main pic has a visible seam where I merged the 2 scans. The second 2 pics are detail shots that appear on the date page of the calendar.

Not one of the best dioramas in the calendar, but nicely done all the same. If you want I could email you the original scans but they are about 25meg each.

Wow, please keep these coming Luke!

They are cool. and also very interesting. You just dont see dioramas like that these days. The Rock face is amazing, even by these days standards. The models are "Meh" but who cares you can clearly see what is going on and what scene they are trying to create.

I still cant get over how cool the terrain is, the Statue, the Rock face, vines.... Wow its soo cool.!

Odd you are getting that much difference in colour on the scan. You could try joining them with a soft edge to try and fix that.

In anycase thanks for scanning it in. I really miss cool dioramas, GW pretty much killed them off with their stupid duel category over the last few years. Having them in the comp again is about the only highlight for this year.

I have to agree with you on that front, too much time is now being centred on the models in a diorama, not the setting which is half the point. Imagine this with newer models :D

there's a good reason for that - especially with GD. The focus is on the miniatures, not the scenery. If Games Workshop made scenery, then they'd have competitions on how great the diorama's settings were, not the actual miniatures :P

I still have that painting guide and the space marine one that came in the original space marines paint set, and they aren't all creased up. I should scan em in.

Here are the March and April dioramas. I'm getting a bit better at blending the scans but it requires that I lose the edges of the picture.
