There has been quite a few passionate topics/posts lately on here... so I thought a zone/post to let fly without derailing a worthy thread might be a good idea. It has been suggested that some basic rules be placed too, but with the main intention of keeping this topic open and fun.

1. Keep it clean and PG.
2. Keep it genuine or with some point/context.
3. No bashing contributors for their rants (its ok to disagree, but please do so politly).
4. Any topic, hobby or real world are acceptable (however avoid offensive/racist views)
5. As a general guideline, if it's NSFW (Not Safe For Work), then its probably not safe for this forum.
6. <---- Is the number of beers in a six-pack, number of balls in an over in cricket, sides on a dice...

I'm going first....

Finecast.... my biggest problem is the short notice. I have been collecting dwarves for ages now and have some partially complete metal units of Hammers, Iron Breakers and Slayers. Some of the units were only a box or too (or in some cases a mini or 3 away from completion). Now I have just added 1/2kg of metal to my singles and bits box of metals.

Gharhhhh... @(&&^%@&^%$#%$^*&.

 Okay! Is this specifically things about minis and the industry or is it a more general 'Things that p#*%s me off' thread? Just to set some ground rules...

Also, there is a real risk, given the current environment, of this becoming a GW-bashing forum. Although they might deserve it, that would not be incredibly useful. Perhaps people need to stick to facts and how they effect them personally and not just generally bad-mouthing a particular entity?

@ nosferatu : I hope it becomes a bit of everthing! A general whinge or random thread of 'annoyances'. I suppose one of my 'rants' lately has been on some threads being taken off topic lately with lots of negativety.

But you are right about some rules:-

This topic is designed to be insightful and fun too. If abused I will ask a mods to remove posts or close the topic, as this is a bit of an experiment right now.

Have fun!

Rant and Rave time….ok firstly I am getting old-I just turned 41 and even though I am still enjoying playing hockey, do you have any idea how hard it is chase down someone half your age. Now onto miniatures…I must say they have come a long way in 20 years including detail and size (especially GW minis). That said though the detail these days in most miniatures is stunning and computer aided design have made huge advances especially in plastic. It is nice to have so many Companies producing great stuff but it does eat into the wallet and there are now officially enough hours in the day to get them all painted. Arghhh.. I have to many miniatures now/ not enough time….
What else I want to rave about the number of top notch painters that also now exist. In the last ten years the standard has gone through the roof, not just in Australia but worldwide. Just look at the top miniatures from around the world… what page are we up to now….so many and so talented. I wont go about GW at all, I think it has been said but up to now they have usually had great products and I am sure that will be the case in future. As to cost effective that imo is a different matter.
I don’t want to think about how much money and time I have sent over the years but I have to say it has been worth it and looking forward to things to come. However it is getting hard to keep up painting wise these days and I have to mention that I am getting old or have I already said that…. Cant remember….

Nice Rant! :)

And I agree on the too many great miniatures, not enough time to paint... :)

Things I hate at the moment: taxes, the cold, admin keeping me from actual work, etc.
Things I love at the moment: AK-47, 2 illustration projects, my financial situation, travel plans for next year, etc.

Seriously, I think they should've made finecast a lot better; producing models that were not bent/bubbly, and made them an 'order to store' product, and left the matal models; or at least replaced the boxed sets with them, and left the single models ect. metal. I'm getting a bit peeved at the quality that I have seen so far; they look ok, but after closer inspection, almost all of them are flawed in one way or another... bubbles in the most innoportune places, heads missing horns, etc., and I'm dissappointed, because GW is THE big player in the industry, and to be frank, I expected better.

I'll accept that.

My rant today is over something mini related....

For years now I've had an old Grenadier Models stone idol floating about my study, painted back in the early '80's in enamels but a cool piece. Kind of a celtic stella surrounded by skulls. I've moved it from time to time but it kept popping up.
Having returned from my trip with a bag full of nice minis I decided to start a fresh project - the Lord of the Feast by Privateer Press.
I thought, "hey - that grenadier idol would go ace with this mini" and decided, finally, to use it....

... do you reckon I can find it now....

it's in hiding I think with the original 28mm, human size Eldar Avatar I have somewhere...

I guess my rant is the general one where you KNOW you have a particular mini but can't lay your hands on it - pain in the freckle!

Maybe this was why he was allowed to have a holiday to Europe, someone else had a spring clean.

I just broke out my new Vallejo Air Metals set - why the heck didn't I buy these earlier?! These are the finest metallics I've ever used. I can't imagine going back to the GW or Vallejo normal metals anymore. The colour is intense, the flakes ground to dust ...

I just need to re-finance the house to get another set. Blimey, but these are expensive compared to the other paints.

@ Kelvin

Good arent they.
Try this out:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Vallejo-Mode ... 5187fea23e

It is where I bought mine, it works out to be about $3 per paint pot (including postage) and you can choose what you want.

@ Angora

I would love to see how many miniatures you have one day. Personally I am about to do a stock take myself and I think it is going to take a while- good thing I start holidays this weekend. :D

my rant:
1. online hobbyists: this does not include anyone specifically, but hobby forums are no longer about hobby forums. they have become points of personal insult and company bashing, much akin to youtube comment sections. people! lets bring back the fun in the hobby and leave emotion on the dancefloor! :P
2. accumulated miniatures: why is it, no matter how many armies/ projects i complete i still have too many models in the garage!?!?!? i think there needs to be a place to sell back unfinished projects, because this is killing me

Thanks, Arithon. I might just spring the 200 bucks and pick up one of every colour.
