Ok - I'm on the verge of picking my laptop up and throwing on the ground and stomping it into a million pieces

It's basically brand new - bought last month - and I've been trying to dowload   various rulesets etc, such as Infinity, Grunts and Warpath etc and I keep getting a message coming up on the bottom of the screen saying "Zeon Corporation wants to run add-on" then has a button which either I press 'allow', or 'allow all sites' and when I press either, it basically crashes the window and closes it down and I can't download anything. I've had a look at my security settings etc and there doesn't appear to be any problems, no viruses etc and when I check the Help section about managing add-ons, it isn't much help either.

I'm going to throw it out the window soon and my wife will be most unimpressed... :x

Can anyone PLEASE help????? :(

uninstall that Zeon crap as its just a PDF thing and not as stable as Adobe acrobat reader.

Are you using a windows based machine or MacOS?

internet is like windows, backup your computer when you first get it and wipe it periodicaly then reset to the backup, tada good as new :-D (well that is my solution to the problem anyways :-D

Formating the PC is only viable if he has made a restore disk (that will have the Zeon crap on it anyhow) or it comes with the OEM windows DVD package, even then you still have to get and intall the drivers for all the hardware/printers, although Win7 does have most of these built in so it will work and you only need to get specific drivers for your GFX card and whatever other nice specific hardware it has. Plus it takes time that may not be available right now. I understand all the bloatware on the device may be an issue at some point but really its not the reason for this issue and can be dealt with at a later date if needed.

If he only wants what he says, that is to get it working the way he wants it to, the easiest way is to uninstall the Zeon software and install acrobat reader. There is actually a section on the zeon website for "if" the pdf server/driver software crashes and there are release notes about it.... So my thoughts are that its a common and known about issue that they have no intention of fixing only having a work around for it, which in itself is no guarantee that it will work. This will stop the zeon crap trying to intall some plug-in for itself and in theory stop the crashes. If the crashes still happen after zeon has been removed and acrobat reader installed then there maybe a cause for re-formatting the device but not before.

I assume that the rulesets change windows settings like scripts? If so you might want to disable certain window functions like VAC and firewall.

Im not sure what addons you are trying to run, nor do i know what zeon is but firefox and adobe reader x is the way to go for those tpyes of softwares.

agreed, i was merely pointing out that formating is a fix as solution as far as software issues are concerned :-D

:D

ahh I knew I could count on the good citizens of Ozpainters to help me in my time of crisis...

Thanks for all your replies; I'm going to try and uninstall and download Adobe acrobat instead and see how that goes. I'll be sure to put my hand up for help if I need it again (which I probably will  :P )

Thanks again guys - much appreciated.

Marcus
