Ok guys, who is going to the awesomeness that will be Auscon? Its actually not to far away now... a couple of months. So who is thinking of going?

Seriously guys, I anticipate the competition to be very good. And it is definatly something new for the Australian painting scene. So if you can get the time off, try and come along. And, on another note, a strong showing in the first year of the competition will only improve the competition for years to come. I know that one of the reasons I wanted go to the Ravage Mix Open in Paris was because of all the amazing entries I saw online from the first year of the competition. I will show how good the comp can be, and bring people out of the woodwork for years later.

So, I am definatly going, Sebastian also. So any other NSW'ers gonna come?

PS: We need to go to QLD home soil and steal some awards, after they took all the Demons last year. :P

Yes, the missus and I are going. We bought tickets to Auscon already, it's just a matter of sorting out the accommodation, flights, and car hire.

Dances are an important ingredient in painting for GD.

I'll accept that.

That is good Drew! Good news! Also get Martin to come. We need the new talent to keep the painting scene going here in Oz. :D

As much as I would like to be there, I won't be able to make it sorry. I'm planning on going next year though. I'm looking forward to hearing what it is like.

I need to look into this soon, but have to roll Cancon over first later this month.

Where abouts are you guys staying for Auscon, for those that booked accommodation already?

I'm staying with my cousin, a little cheaper that way for me. Its a long weekend in QLD that weekend so it might get busy on the accommodation front, I didn't ring about but just a heads up for people that still need to book.

I'm booking rooms at the Stamford. Anyone else need me to make a booking for them?

No. You pay for entry to AUSCON, then pay again for the workshops you want to attend. I've bookmarked what I want to attend, and it isn't cheap - along the order of $150 AUD for a couple of days worth of workshops. I'll get around to sorting that out, too, at some point when the furor here dies down (QLD floods - disaster recovery has been activated, so it's quite interesting right now).

Wow they need to get the website info easier to understand then! That information is not easily found. I'm not paying for all the extra shit they have on, its just not worth it, i dont think what i would learn more from the workshops would be worth the money.... what ever that cost may be as I can't find the info. Where is the info regarding the extras? Plus where do you find the event tickets? Its not in ticket sales, which would be the obvious location to put them you would imagine? I imagined that the 'events' would be extra, but there is no info on the site that I can find, nor on the blog either.

I might be blind, or just not looking in the right spots, but its a little anoying to have to dig for information and for that information not to be crystal clear in the obvious 'ticket sales' section added to the fact that I cannot find it.

To be honest the site is pretty but average. The information is just not all there or difficult to find and thats frustrating, knowing that all the seminars are costing me lots extra, if i hadn't booked flights, I would reconsider going as the costs for attending will not be worth my time expendature. I would love to see some of the seminars to kill time, but really I'm not forking out large wads of cash just to watch or listen. Thats just me and my rant about AusCon, really disapointed, and the lack of information or the difficulty finding it at this point really makes me quite unhappy.

I guess if all the info was up I would be happy. Being able to make judgement calls with all the relevant information. Considering I have to book flights, organise accommodation and travel and what not, finding out one of the major drawcards is costing a lot of extra cash, well thats kind of important info that I feel should be up with the ticket sales section. It not being up easy to see, makes me feel like they kept the info quiet so people are not put off attending the event due to all the extra costs.

Sorry, I'm just quite peeved at this right now, so much so I might just spend 3 days with my family in town and not attend, as I still haven't got my AusCon ticket yet. We'll see how I feel in a few hours when I've simmered down. Now I need to consider if entering the painting comp and supporting this whole shabang is worth it. I just hate events where the information is not shared in an obvious and clear fashion.

Please let me know if my anger is misrepresented, or can point me in the direction of the real costs of this event.
