Can't make it, again, unfortunately. Have to go to Ballarat on Sunday for a family gathering. ...couple of birthdays to 'celebrate'. :?

Oh dear this came around fast. With me having done pretty much nothing in-between.

That's what you get for posting after coming home from a day on the turps!

It's been a good weekend so far - out for lunch and dinner yesterday and out for lunch again today!
I can heartily recommend the place we went for dinner last night.

Awesome, awesome food - though a tad expensive - worth every penny though.

So how was the painting day?

I called into the new store on Saturday to pick up a steampunk Jen Haley mini. It's massive (the shop)! Should be great when it is all set up.

Hmmm, the day :? .........well lets see........there were 2 of us, myself and Speed of Dark for the majority of the day, with Maria sitting with us when she could. A young lady arrived with her boyfriend (apologies guys, but I've forgotten your names  ) around 12:30 I think and sat painting, then Andrew slipped away around 2ish to be replaced by Bevan, then I had to go by 3.
A very lacklustre turnout, but I guess I should have planned it better. How can I compete against Bathurst, GD entries day on the Saturday, etc,
I know people have real life stuff to attend to as well, but this is the reason I planned these last few painting days months in advance so that everyone had plenty of time to organise themselves.
If it hadn't been for the fact that Realm was open anyway because they are frantically setting up the new store I would have felt very guilty if they had opened up specially for us which they normally do.
I can only hope and pray that we get a good turnout at the November day as it's their grand opening weekend and they are putting an enourmous effort in for everyone.
I guess all I can do is wait and see.

As to the shop, it's great isn't it :?: :D Once they have everything in it's place it's going to be awesome. The gaming community really needs to get behind Ross and Maria to make it work though as they're putting everything on the line for this venture.

The young lady was me! I painted this;

I painted the cloak, hair and face at the painting day, then finished the armour, gloves, axe and thingy in the helmet when I went home (which is why those aren't as good. I still need to get a proper lamp) Please excuse my frequent brush slips, I am only a beginner D:

Rob promises he'll paint something next time.

My sincerest apologies Bryony  , that's what happens when you get to my age, the memory is the first thing to go!

I like the stuff you brought with you, very nice stuff. At least for a beginner you've gotten the basic colour stuff down neatly. Now you can start to work on the shading and highlighting aspects.
Keep posting, as I said the people on OzPainters are some of the nicest people and they will give you honest critique and advice. :D

I had a look at the White Dwarf mini on that link and its rather good, I like the neatness as its a good base to build upon. Not to mention its a really good start to a top paint job. Now work on that highlight and shading and look to enter GD 2011! :D unlike me, dont wait years before entering due to apathy and procrastination.

Hi guys, I'm sorry about the late arrival on Sunday and now it looks like I'll be missing the grand opening. I should never be trusted with a calendar.

Hey, I'm not!

A shame about Sunday. As mentioned I couldn't make it as I was in Ballarat eating barbecue and cake.

To be honest I've been slightly put off by the last couple of painting days I've attended because there were too many people. Not just because I'm anti-social, but also because it wasn't a great painting environment at the old shop when it was overcrowded. I'm thinking that this problem should no longer exist, the new shop certainly has the space!

Painting days are, of course, about more than painting but if I'm going to bother to lug all my gear, I do like to achieve something!

I'm looking good for November anyway. With any luck I'll be in the middle of 4 weeks of leave ...photo processing and mini painting frenzy! 8)

 I would have thought in your profession it was a prerequisite?

Sorry to hear you cannot make the next one. :(
