Hmmm... that does change things a bit. I may give GD a miss - not sure...
Mind you... wasn't it $50ish when he;d at Hordern Pavillion?

Part of me objects paying $75.00 to go shopping and see lots of cool toys. Part of me says this might be the price we have to pay to have a Games Day. Question is whether we throw our support behind Auscon or Games day for those of us able to make one but not two events.

they're really not doing themselves any favours at the moment are they...

I didn't plan on going this year anyway, so it doesn't affect me either way - but I'm just hoping they haven't priced themselves out of the market so to speak. I'm sure they'll be desperate to get big numbers at this years event in order to declare it a success, the only advantage I can see to this pricing is it may deter some of the kiddy element which is great for an old fart like me to (hypothetically) not worry about, but not so good for attracting the actual target demographic GW have in the first place.

I'm sure they have crunched numbers etc and will need to make sure they at least break even if at all possible, I'm just not sure this is the way to do it. :?:

Definitely off putting. $75 is too much. At least now no one will continue whinging about Auscon prices.

mother of.... WTF! $75!!!

wow.... thats nasty. GamesDay = personal loan. Im sure that NZ hobbiest are peeved, basicallu a $90 ticket for them, plus a flight, well even non NSW participants would be unhappy as the travel costs are added to that.

I vote AUSCON ;)

I have to admit even as an ardent gamer that is a lot of money for an event!

Is that for a one day ticket?

yeah personally I think that we should support both. As we are kind of isolated in the world and having 2 events makes me very happy.

That said, $75 bucks is an insane amount for one day! They better have some blow-my-mind awesome business going on. Otherwise I'll be a saaaaad panda =(

.... not to mention they haven't posted details of the demons yet either.

I would love to support both. In an ideal world that would be lovely. That said the reality is I'll get to one at most.

I am still gonna go. I am just stating it is expensive, and I cant see any reason for it being so steep. It would also be slack of me to of complained for years and years that there was no Games Day then not go to the first one they have!

I do think Auscon has the advantage now, cosidering it is cheaper and has an Open Comp, Seminars etc.

But, the lure of another resin Demon statue to add to my collection is very strong. Face it. GD is still the most well known and prestigous traditional Gold,Silver, Bronze painting comp in the world.

I'll be going. I've never been to a Games Day before, so I'm really excited for it. I agree thought that $75 is very steep.

yes. I still want to enter GD so I'm in. The lure for resin demons as you say is strong. But I can see how the price may put some people off.

I think for most of us, who dont really have an interest in gaming and focus much more on the painting. It is difficult to justify forking out $75 to enter Golden Demon. I dont want to play or look at people playing games of 40k, Fantasy etc. Displays are slighty enjoyable to kill time, as is looking at the pre-release minis and maybe talking to the 'famous' studio people who come out for the event. But most of the other things dont interest me. I am not an all round hobbyist, so I dont think I am getting my moneys worth.

I'll go now I've settled down from the price shock... Does anyone remember what the old GD tickets were worth - it's got me curious.
In the long run GD is still cheaper for me than Auscon (plus I'll be around at the time). What will be tricky is dragging out the $75 before I go away in May (every cent counts at the moment  )
