What an awesome model, and so far a great looking paintjob.
If it isnt a trade secret, how exactly are you doing the reds? (which colours)

Also is this mini still available anywhere? I'd love to lay my hands on one if I could...

I'll try to do a write-up of the reds later when I can get all the paints to hand

With regards to availability, it was never available as a full kit, Chris included a part of his "Mystery Monster" in each of the first five figures he released. So you will either have to buy all 5 (Quite expensive I admit) or find people that have purchased one and have a mystery monster part available for trade.

You could try posting on PB or the basement, maybe even here

Great work. This is going to be really impressive when finished.

Meant to say earlier, the head (All tentacles included) is in with the cleric, so that would allow you to do a mindflayer bust quite easlly if you wanted. It would just need the shoulders and collar added.

 .... well, that got me interested. A flayer bust would be awesome.... a little putty and BAM! Instant flayer! Thanks heaps! Now I have a target for my mind flayer fetish.

Apologies for not sorting out details of the red yet, I'll try and sort things out tomorrow ... ...

Anyway, I had some more progress last weekend on the arms so the painting is basically complete. I had though of adding some text or runes of some sort on the long strips at the front, but instead I decided to stick with a textured effect. Though I did add some characters to the three shorter strips that run down the back.

I'm just waiting for some resin to set on the base and then I'll need to finish the assembly and work out exactly what I'm doing with all the chain

Having dragedd myself away from Skyrim, and with Diablo 3 on the horizon I'va managed to force myself back to the painting desk in an attempt to get something new done for Salute. I had the bases for these guys made last year before I got distracted, but a few days holiday should see me get most of the basic work done and a whole squad of blue and gold figures to go with the Privateer Press piece I did a year or so ago.

So a quick pic of all the bits and pieces
And then a couple more of how the new pieces are progressing

I've started work on the Infinity drone/walker thing
And the new Privateer Press piece is in need of a lot of tidying up
But I've just about remembered how to handle the yellow now :)

Hopefully I'll manage to keep up with a little painting after Diablo is released
If I say that often enough I might even believe it :? :? :?

Thought I'd have a quick change of pace for a post and make a list of the things that have increased my grey army as a result of going to Salute. I'd even thought of making a note of the number of figures bought and running a counter as I buy and paint them, but decided that it would only lead to madness and the destruction of the fragile miniatures economy  :!:

Two new Smart Max pieces, both cool babes with big guns

Mary by JAG, another cool babe with a big gun . . . Hmm, spotting a trend

Ajax from Thomas David (Actually this was a gift so very thankful, but now feel a need to paint it soon . . . )

Couple of pieces from Amon
Gobleon and Robby, a robot with a big gun . . . Maybe that trend was juast about the guns . . . . :?

Pre-ordered Stuff from ForgeWorld
Chaos Dwarf Deamon Smith, Fimir and the new Minotaurs
Turns out their pre-order confirmation email is typed out manually and someone forgot to hold shift when typing the £ symbol
Putting an extra digit infront of the value of the order is clearly a new policy to make sure ForgeWorld stuff remains expensive

And three pieces from Hasslefree
Godwin and Andreah (Spacefarers/Pirates) and Tomoko (The Ghost in the Shell lookalike)

And now a quick pic of the next piece on the painting desk

This is another of Yury Serebryakov's sculpts, I really like the way it cuts off so quickly at the jacket collar

I intend to do a similar lighting effect to the Landsknecht, but stronger and rougher. So instead of using an airbrush to apply the directional lighting I've limited that effect to the undercoat to provide a very basic guide. The next step will be to just block in the colours, I'm thinking of trying something similar to one I saw at the world expo which had a yellowish tone to the jacket. I'll see if I can get a picture of it uploaded later.

Cracking on, spent about 1 to 1 1/2 hours putting the main base colours on
So I forgot to add some red for the central star on the hat . . . nothing too important

The coat was worked with Vallejo dark yellow and then shaded with GW chardon granite, Vallejo dark sea green and then a bit of black.

For the shirt it was a mix of P3 Thrall Flesh and GW Catchan Green followed by Catchen Green and then Vallejo Bronze Green.

No idea what the initial blue colour was but it was shaded with Vallejo Oxford Blue and then som black

The hat was mostly Vallejo Blue Grey, then Vallejo Dark Grey and some black, but I'm wondering if I want to move it to a browner of a bluer tone than it courrently is.

Image

I then blocked the flesh in with a mix of GW Dwarf Flesh and P3 Khardic Flesh, shading with GW Shadow Grey and Vallejo Dark Sea Gerey and a little black.

Pushing on with progress

Got the red out to block in the star
Added some very pale grey to mark some highlighting on the face

Stippled some highlights and shadows onto the coat
The darker areas around the back are being difficult though

Also added some brown tones to the hat
Used a couple of the new GW painst for that
