Very interesting so far. Just one question do you always do the basework on the clear plastic then stick it on for wooden bases? I can understand the advantages with being able to scrap the base if it fails without effecting the wooden base, are there any other reasons to do so though?

One reason was i knew I'd need to sand the sides smooth and I didn't want to remove the varnish from the side of the plinth, it's easy enough to mask the sides while painting but protecting it from sand paper is a bit tougher.

I'll get some pics taken soon, maybe tonight but got a MMORG evening so may be pressed for time. Also the size means that I need to up the fstop on the camera to get it all in focus and that means using the tripod and it all takes more time and I was just too lazy :)

But I was writing a bit about the construction so I'll get that posted up with some pics later.

Very inventive Conrad! I am just a little concerned at the roughness of the little ships. Is it possible to smooth then into harder edges? But really, such a cool idea. I am really keen to see how it turns out!

Yes, was looking at that myself
I expect I may have to get a little putty and a clay shaper out

I did smooth the front down with a little milliput and this is the base just about completed I think

Added some vegitation by cutting small bits off some vine like basing material stuff and I just don't think it needs little blobs for people. I was actually thinking I could probably use bits of flock witha couple of blobs of flesh coloured paint on them and a dark blob on top for hair bit I' not too worried about it at the moment.

Looks really Ace Conrad! Hurry and finish it so you can play Diablo 3! Also, which character class are you going to play first?

Thanks, and thanks for the push into getting me to smooth the front of the ship rather than just going with it.

The large Diablo 3 Collectors Edition box is now on my work desk as I type this, not totally sure what I'll play first though, probably a Barbarian, but that's not a guarantee.

Still, I will get this completed
Just a couple of tweaks left, like some green staining around his feet
And I might just decide to add windows in those little houses

I don't get the story with this one. I originally thought he was some titan like construct over looking the fleet, but now he looks like a statue, with massive fabric clothes on. Interesting build though, very nice painting on the main guy and the base, the ceramic looking white parts are particularly nice and I would say my favourite part of the piece. The one thing that I would say is to make the sail of the ship face the wind direction more, to match the flow on the cloth parts of the guy.

I like the two painting and the base/guy singularly, I'm just not getting how the big guy and base go together with the story behind it.
