Well, I have decieded to enter Open this year in a direct responce to Forge World being at GDOz 2011 and my desire to win Forge World Best in Show.

Gotta be in it to win it as they say.... so here it the base work for the peice.

It's mostly plater of paris, with some other sculpey rocks, and its based on a lump of wood thats been toped with cork. The cork was distressed for uneven ground and the plaster parts added to the top. There is some plastic I-beam there and some GW brass etch with a little bit of jewellers chain. That green stuff on the I-beam is distess crackle medium. Other gubins include some shell casings made from aluminium tube and a bit of copper wire. Over all this took 2 afternoons work, about 3 hours to make plaster, set it, shape it and build it to what it is now.

Next stop, undercoat!

Aaahhhh excellent, Mark's quest for world domination (well, forgeworld domination anyway) has begun! Glad you decided to post the WIPs, should be cool.

Looking great so far, nice angles on the stone blocks and the metal beam. Maybe you could post some shots showing your planned positioning of the figures on the base, before you start to paint? That way we can all check out the balance of the scene etc.

Placement of minis goes as such.

The idea is that they are on a recon of an area of a ruined city. I may add a few small detail bits like 'Adrian' said on saturday to this as well I just haven't decided what yet.

OK, placement looks cool to me...maybe the flamer guy could take an extra half step forward to move him away from the big block a bit more, and to cover up more of that big slab ont he front right (as we look at it) corner...also maybe gives more of a sense that he is moving 'off the base' if he is close to the edge, perhaps?

Only other thing i'd suggest is having some kind of interesting, important detail with a bit of height at the front left corner, where you currently have that bit of copper wire sticking up. I think that's almos the most important part of the base - it's sort of where the base opens up, and it could easily turn into one of those 'dead zones' unless you're careful to make areal feature out of that area. Know what I mean? But at the same time you need to be careful not to create too much of a square between the two figures, the pillar, and that corner...you don't want to make it look like you have something placed equally in each corner of the base. Although the pillar is moved in a bit from the corner, which is good - should help that problem.

So all in all looking good, I like it!

Yeah I know what you mean about that left corner... I originally had some brass etch razor wire in there to pretty it up, but had to remove it because its not GW or forgeworld, I don't want to add it in and risk getting DQ'ed for it so I removed it, shame really. I wish i had some of the FW wire but I don't.

Either way it will get something... I also need it to look like flamer boy could have moved through the area as well. Maybe a bicycle whell like Adrian ( ) said, some posters of imperial propaganda or something i have already is some brass etch fencing... that could be twisted up and mangled to fill the area. The problem is finding something nice and light, so not to make it heavy visually in the area and add detail and interest as well....

I got a few things to look for this afternoon I think.

If only you had a little dog in a gas mask to put between the two! I love the Krieg stuff, and going by the FW Best of Show lately, they seem to love Krieg as well.

Good luck with this, I hope you keep us posted with more progress shots. This is like the Panzer tribute entry!

Looking very nice so far. Good to see you working away at it already! Then again, the comp isn't too far off.

I'll accept that.

found my plastic GW dog. How about this to kill the deadspace on the left front quarter? I like it... the little guy will get a gas mask of course, just like his larger mates.

I like it, good idea! Maybe just move it forward a few steps to the front of that slab it's on, so that it's closer to the front flamer guy, and not spaced equally between both of the figures?

It's a great idea, I think it definitely adds something extra to the scene :)

Mark if you are going to use the dog, you have to give it a gas mask. it will be awesome! If not wearing it, at least hanging from its neck, like the Smart Max dog: http://www.smartmaxstore.com/winston-the-bulldog.htm or like this pig: http://www.coolminiornot.com/169040?browseid=232305

I have to say, seeing the bare models like that makes me want to give them a shot at some point. I always thought they were nice models, but have never seen the level of details on them clearly until now.
