Working on a couple of bases. Both still need quite a lot of work but I thought I'd post them to create a bit of pressure to keep 'em going. The first is actually for a painting comp (Black Scorpion), but with the closing date fast approaching (4th of July) I'm not that hopeful of getting this one done in time. It might have a slightly piratey theme:

The second is for a mini that comes from a little closer to home. It's a conversion of a resin base (supplied by Weisern ...thanks mate!) and will be used for something to do with fungi!

Comments welcome, but note that these are pretty rough at the moment. Hopefully they'll look a bit better once remaining details have been added.

Not seeing any roughness. Both are looking very nice. I especially like the texture you've managed to get on the rock.

both look really interesting, with the coins on the first base, if you can, you can always engrave some scribble, otherwise they'll look a bit flat.

nice one! I've been doing all these bigger bases that I totally forgot how those micro art studio forest bases would be quite well suited to the fungeins.

Very little progress due to processing of Heron Island photos... :|

Oh well, the Black Scorpion competition entry date has been extended by 3 weeks, so although I had given up I'm still in with a chance of getting this done. Mini and undercoat have been added, not much else:

Kojak: Not worried about the coins, I reckon' I'll be better off painting in some detail than trying to sculpt it.

I still have work to do on the other base.

A bit more progress on the other one. I'm going to have another crack at the feelers on the millipede, I stuffed 'em up a bit. Other than that it is almost ready for paint. "Mossy" bits will be added to cover the dodgiest bits. Undercoat and mini should be added tomorrow.

I know it's an astounding amount of work since June last year, but bear with me!

I'm off the painkillers now, so I can't blame them any more!

Re-did the feelers and have primed and attached the mini now:

Some mossy bits will be added once painting is completed. Now the easy bit's done and it is on to the bit I've been struggling to get into lately...

...or I could just say that this was my artistic intent and that he is now finished. A work in black and white!

Looks cool David. Very clean sculpting and a decent scale for the mini. I am keen to see what colours you for with the base and also the Goblin.

Are you going to go for Rackham style colours? Like some of the Paul Bonner artworks. Or more of a Natural style of colours amd scheme?

At the moment I'm thinking that it will be somewhere in between. That is I want him to be reasonably colourful, but in a darker more subdued way. Making sense ...probably not! Maybe purples and greens for the skin tone as a starting point (something like the later Mid-Nor skin colours) and natural fungi colours (which means pretty much anything you like!). Dark forest colours for the rest.
