Nearly done the basic colours. Just have to finish and attach the twin linked guns mounted underneath, canopies and the free hand. I was thinking of putting freehand writing on the inside of the forward pieces and beside the lower canopy. Anybody got any suggestions or ideas? Just unsure what I should attempt.

Jamie, that looks amazing... As a whole I can see it as a masterpiece, however I can still see some "tide marks" especially on the front of the tank where the two large flat "fins" are... Any chance you could go ove there again just to smooth it before you add the freehand? I think that would improve it so much, it just bugs me seeing that on an otherwise perfect mini...

Anyway, as for the freehand, not being an eldar player I have no idea what would suit fluff wise, but I say whatever you attempt, really push yourself, make it your own and be creative. complex designs could really do wonders here, even if they are fairly simple to paint on. Some thin thorns would not be too hard to master and would look very effective and, as far as I am aware, be in keeping with the Eldar.

Certainly though, push your skills, lets see what you can do!

I will have to fix those tide marks, your right I was just being lazy. I will do some more research on the free hand and see what I can come up with. :D

Great to hear!

Like I said, it really is being a bit nitpicky (you have to be when talking about your painting, there is very little to complain about! lol) but I can see it being a grip in the future...

There is nothing worse than having spent allot of time on a model and not making it perfect because you got lazy and didn't spend the extra hour or so fixing a couple of small issues... When you look back at it it'll stand out like black balls on a white dog, and basically pull the whole paint job down!

What is the craftworld you are doing here? (please forgive my ignorance) it is always good to follow through on a theme for models in an army, so i'd try and keep with the craftworld designs when painting on the freehand.

Whatever you do though, shoot high, push yourself, its what I do and it seems to improve you more than anything else! (you'll probably surprise yourself too!!)

Good luck!

Ah craftworld....throw paint at model. It doesnt really belong to any. I was thinking Beil Tan, as this is what the rest of my miniatures were. There is no real plan for this army..

Arghhhh ok... Hmm well then I guess anythign goes then? Beil tan use teh thorns right? I think they always look good... If you did a nice bone colour on the thorn patter it could come out really very striking too... Just make sure you keep your lighting effects on the freehand as well, or the freehand will look like its been layered over the top, rather than it actually being painted onto the tank...

Just a quick note
Apparently you can use this cleaner stuff for treating canopies

Thanks for the article. :D I must get some and try it out. The canopies have now been attached and painted but I can still apply this product with a brush.

Cheers,

Jamie.

I know how hard it is to blend on such large flat surfaces. You have done a great job, pushing your highlights and shadows much further than I have dared to in the past. I really like the way you have highlighted the air intakes. I'm as stumped as you as to what freehand should go on this tank but one area (on top of those you already mentioned) that would look good is the large panel to the right of the turret gunner. Have you considered the eldar decal sheets for inspiration?

Just a suggestion.
Why not use a straight line of runes, each rune roughly the physical size of the canopies, to stretch from the 2nd quadrant on the right fin straight over the whole machine to the other side, done in basic black, with the same for the small turret too.
hope you understand what I mean.
As I said, just a suggestion.

-Tony

Never been a massive fan of Eldar, namely because imo, due to all the different colors, the army never seems to work in unison. You sir, seem to pull it all together somehow to still make the army look like a single, cohesive unit. Well done :)

Hmm, given the freehand on your tank (I'm sure it has a real name) have you thought of re-doing the freehand on the wraithguard? Just that I think it would make a good design for the bottom or side of the sashes

Thats a good idea. I find that free hand works alot better with a dark colour as a background so I might do a dark border at the bottom of the sash then add the freehand?
