Your beastman looks really great jamie - at first i wasn't sure about the bright blue and yellow colours, but in the end it all came together really well. THe purplish undertones in the flesh, fur and horns really make it for me, and especially in combination with the purple tones in the base. The NMM on the sword looks really cool - nice one. I think I probably would have preferred a bit more weathering on the metals - they are still a little bright and vibrant for my taste, especially the gold parts, which are still quite yellow-ish. The lighting over the mini is captured relaly well, you are definately making a big improvement with this I think. Well done mate! :D

It's good to see you doing something a bit different for your base, for a change! haha - those sticks and bits at the back are cool. I'll tell you once thing I would recommend though - for the rocky parts, are you using bits of cork tile, or what? For me, they are a bit rough - you are a bit stuck with drybrushing as the main painting technique on a lot of your bases I think. I used to have that problem as well - but I remember reading a basing article in cry havoc a while ago, where they say that they filed the cork pieces to make smoother surfaces. This is what I do now - I cut pieces of cork in shape, just from a wine bottle or something, and then using some different files to smooth out parts, make cracks, and just shape the cork to look more rock-like. The smoother surfaces are a real benefit when it comes to painting. It's in CH 3 if you want to have a look at the article.

Thanks Seb its definitely one of the better miniatures I have done. I must try out the smooth rock technique on my diorama I plan on building. I think this is something that would really benefit from larger flat surfaces. I wont go into too much detail yet but it I will be building it in the near future.

Some quick photos i took this morning, so they arent that good. Especially the "flowers", they are much more brown IRL. Need to push those highlights and work on my smoothness! Lots of things even crap pictures pick up that dont look so bad by eye

Had a bit of a play some tamiya weathering stuff i picked up. The little pack has three pastel things that are "soot" "snow" and "rust". Were reasonably effective on the butt spike of the spear, not so on the spear head.

Looking good.
I grabbed one of those weathering packs the other day too, but haven't tried it out yet.

hey yeah, i should finish sculpting mine tonight. this is a pretty good indication of the pace that i work at, so expect this trend to continue into the future...

i've been working a 50 hour week lately, that's my excuse. probably those hours will continue until july or august, so i'm going to be struggling to even do my gd stuff. will see what i can do.

Still working hard - hoping to have it finished this week, but got side-tracked with some of life's little dramas. Should hopefully have my beastman polished off this week though and will try to get some reasonable photos to share :)

Alright then! As promised, here they are: kyle's beastman, steve's beastman, and mine. Sorry for all the delays, argh - you'll see why it took me so long tonight, when I post another new mini I just finished painting. But at least we three eventually got around to finishing ours at last, eh? :P

So, I'll apologise in advance because this post will be a vertical mile long. First kyle's: HE went for a sort of khorne beastman, lots of blood, red colouring of the flesh etc., and a warm coloured, dark base. The little flowers on the base look really cool - painted crimson to link with the red on the mini - and we were also saying that the blood on the grass looks great on the base too, although it doens't show up so well in the photos. Sorry I couldn't get better photos kyle - it's hard for my poor camera to get good focus when the mini is so 3D. The flesh colour is pretty good, but some areas could have used some more work - I reckon some more colour nuances in the skin would have been nice. ANd the horse part of the beastman needs some more work too! :) I love that skeleton dude with the signpost haha.

Image

Ok, now steve's! his is a nurgle-ish sort of beastman, really dirty...steve loves dirt and weathering ;) Really great flesh tones, crazy colours, interesting. Having the eyes dark like that makes the face cool, sinister-looking. That tentacle arm with the flail is so awesome haha, who doesn't love a good tentacle? I must have a flail on one of my minis soon! The blood, haha steve got carried away late at night with a new blood technique...I know the feeling  It looks great on the axe, but there is a bit too much blood splattered over everything I think - it needs to be toned down a bit I reckon! But that's ok. We were also saying that steve needs to work a bit on his sculpting, to obtain sharper edges and more definition/detail, on the armour plates especially.

Image

Now mine: I was going for a cold, winter atmosphere, to try some different colours to my usual. In the extreme highlights, especially on the flesh, I tried to move to a pale blue colour, to try to make a sort of cold, slightly strange look in the lighting. Most of the time was spent on the flesh - the rest is a bit of a rush job, so there are lots of problems...on the fur especially, haha the sculpt was kind of dodgy in some areas...but that's no excuse: only the bad workman blames his tools, as they say./ I tried to achieve some more contrast in the metals, too - that is something I need to improve in my painting.

Image

So, I hope you guys enjoy seeing them finally, anyway! Hopefully this will inspire one or two of you to finish yours, so we can have a few more to look at ;)

hey Seb, the colours of the rocks on yours looks awesome. the blue colours on the rocks make it look cold. very clever. all other aspects are great as usual but the rock colours are outstanding.

the blood on Steve's looks very interesting, very coagulated, great job Steve. great skin colour too.

haha, thanks weisern - I added some glazes with turquoise and purple over the rocks as a last minute addition, I'm glad you find it effective! :P A lot of the inspiration for the colours of the mini came from mathieu l's minotaur from the ravage open last year.

Here is the link to CMON, if anyone is interested: http://www.coolminiornot.com/156826

Hi folks, sorry to intrude. I just join the forums few days back and had made a short introduction for those who don't know me. Seeing all these great entries gives me the urge to wanna pass some critics which I hope you guys doesn't mind.

Kyles's - the overall scene is very interesting with the skeleton banner and victim with the gut slashed. Since it looks like a freshly done wound, I feel the blood could have been more reddish on the axe and the victim himself.

Steve's - the sickly looking skin tone looks really nice. Blood splatter is not too over done I feel but there's sometime else that bothers me. The whole mini seems to have been too heavily varnished, I not sure if that's just the photos.

Seb's - A verycool looking beastman. Love the face and skintones. Not the best I've seen of yours but really really impressive nonetheless. I can never understand how one can paint such smooth transitions yet maintain the high contrast throughout. The horns and furs are slightly lacking the attention from what I can see.

ah, seb -finally a skin tone that i like

i like the colder tones too, not overdone. it's just nice to see something that is identifiable as flesh colour as some of the other ones you've posted recently have been anything but.

also nice to see everybody elses take on the mini - i wish i had the time to play around on non-GD mini's!
