I have been looking about the net for colour mixing wheels or w/e pref using GW paints.... but i found little and my own attempts to make variations on some colours were not what i expected....

Anyway this article looks pretty cool... if you have others please post in this thread for me..

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure what the numbers mean.. I guess... ratios? Just golden yellow is 23,1,1 . . . .?

Kommando Khaki actually comes in very handy. I seem to use it for highligting alot at some stages in painting various clothing. ;) Thanks Jynks for the link.

Hi everybody,

I started a litte project regarding Citadel colors on the color wheel last year. Many of us know the color wheel, maybe you also know how to use it  but the question remains where the GW colors are located on the color wheel.

I measured the reflectance spectra of all my GW colors and transformed them to the Lab color space which has (approx.) equidistant perceivable color distances. The mixing line between two colors is (approx.) a line on this color wheel. You will find my slightly more detailed article on this topic and the charts (png&pdf) on my blog:

http://chromaticstimulus.blogspot.com/2 ... rd-on.html

Due to the fact that I'm no native speaker my english is rather bad :(.

You can use the wheel to determine color harmonics, complementary colors or determine how to desaturate a color.

Feedback on my charts is highly appreciated!

Keep in mind, that colors are perceived and not measurable! We can measure spectra, but color is interpreted by your brain. As brains are different, perceived colors are different.

Best regards,

Grumbler

Heyho,

to illustrate the 'mixing line' I mixed the colors Ice Blue / Fiery Orange and Liche Purple / Scorpion Green from 100% to 0% pigments in 10 steps using the corresponding reflectance spectra.

You will see, that the 'mixing line' only approximately corresponds to a straight line. The colours desaturate if the mixture comes close to the center of the color wheel (black/grey/white).

Please keep in mind, that the plotted colors are only srgb approximations of the calculated Lab values. The position on the color wheel is much more important.
