Since Sebastian has been trying to explain this to a few people in the WIP section, I was reminded I had this book "How to Build Dioramas" by Sheperd Paine that has a nice explaination of the general theory behind it. Here is the except from that book that describes the "Stop Sign Rule", and the general principles of zenithal lighting:

Edit: Ummm sorry it's a bit small, Photobucket limits the height of images, but the text is still readable at least.

You can change the settings in Photobucket so that it limits the image in file size rather than image dimensions. The max. file size allowed is 1mb if I remember correctly...

its a great book that a lot of us should have. I got it about 8years ago and still use it today.

oh, right! I've never heard of the stopsign thing before haha - but yes it's basically the same concept that I have been trying toi explain haha. SO yeah, good one numbat! Maybe imagining the stop sign will make it all click for people who didn't quite know what I meant.
