Oh yes ditto on the Strygoi vampire. It's got the horror look right. Great lighting effect and shadow of the creature. Can't wait to see better pics of that one.

yep - ditto too on the strigoi  that's one of the best entries I have ever seen, if not for the painting, for the theme and 'feeling' you get viewing it. It just absolutely nails the vampire horror image...

awesome

*edit*

just looked at a bunch of the other entries in those links and I have to say - this years Italian GD has to be the best competition they've ever had, there is such a depth of talent there with some really creative and interesting entries. Looks like they pulled out all stops in just about every category

Italy always seems to have very nice entries. And seems to still hold onto their own style, where other countries have conformed (either by choice or influenced by judging) to a more traditional EM style painting. Its good to see that these creative entries still keep winning in Italy!

I really like these 2 also:

OMG...there are good entries in this. So much to look at and certainly wouldn’t have liked to be judge on the day. That Strygoi vampire on the pillar is one of my favourites as well. Scratch built as well isnt it? I cant remember GW releasing a miniature that looks that good?

@ Zherroth

Ah that explain it. Must get one of those. It is one of the best uses I have seen of a GW miniatures I have seen in ages and it looks like a minimum amount of conversion was needed.

@ Munger

Nice group isnt it. Good combination of great miniature painting/ basing and nice size pliniths.
