ok guys, here it is, finished finally. :)

It's a commission job for a guy in Italy.

The mini is not the greatest sculpt - it has issues in certain places, especially the fur. But it wasn't too bad to paint in the end....quite a simple mini, so it wasn't too difficult.

I decided to go for a more classic colour scheme (for once!). The commissioner wanted pink tones in the skin, although I think I would have done it this way regardless.

So...there it is!

Some day I'm going to have to take the plunge and try this blending multiple colours bit. Hmm, have a small minotaur I'd like to do after some muck about pieces, so maybe then. Back to your figure, it's as smoothly blended as ever, the metal well weathered and tarnished, and generally rather nice. The main guys lower lip works especially well.

The tattoos seem to fade out a little at the ends. I know it should be more shaded, but I'm not quite sure about that bit. And the orange bracket fungus (I assume thats what it is) just doesn't quite look right, though that could be the angle of the pics.

The opther toadstools look excellent though, and add a nice bit of red to link the base to the figures.

Great as usual Sebatian. :D Apart from what Prawnpower said I cant fault the painting. I only thing I dont like is the miniature itself(one of worst orc miniatures that I think has come out), what was it like to paint? I think the miniature is bit a too cartoonish? Just interested in other people's thoughts.

yeah the base is a bit sketchy, I know hehe/...but the commission guy liked it, so I don't konw if I will worry about doing too much more to it! ;)

As for what it was like to paint - well I thought it was going to be a bad experience haha, but in the end it was actually ok. A lot of preparation work required....there were very bad mould lines, plus some very rough texture on a lot of parts...and pitting etc.. So that was a bit of a drag, and as I said in my post before the sculpting of the fur was VERY dodgy. But the main part, the flesh parts at the front, was fine, and in the end it wasn't too stressful to paint - quite easy to paint in fact.

By the sound of it Sebastian this one took longer to get ready than it did to paint. lol Now that would be a first I know how much effort you put into your painting. :D Glad to hear that it was reasonably pleasant to paint.

Awesome paintjob. And the base is cool, I'd say it's one of your better ones. How did you do the bark, if you don't mind me asking?

you mean the tree stump? It's a resin base from micro art studio haha, I just cut the edges off and stuck it on top of the black plinth base.

Nice Work! I don't mind the mini. I was actually pleasantly suprised when I saw it in the flesh - it's not great but it's better than the photos make it seem.
Is this still the GD 'special category' model for '08. I hear Andrew Long was thinking of not using this mini?

Yes it is. :D Next year Andrew suggested that they use the current years golden miniature instead of the previous years, so people could buy it during the year they are entering instead of trying to find the previous one. He was thinking thiwould start as of next year.

The finished miniature looks great - especially the base work, it fits really well with the colour of the orc! And you seemed to be doing a lot of bases with purple-blue-grey tones lately so this is a nice change. :D

I actually like the mini, though I have not examined it closely enough to spot all the flaws yet...
Overall I think the pose is great it is a kind or serious/dark/humorous orkish character that really suits this race IMO, so I have no problem with the "cartoonishness" of it at all. I am not overly impressed with the gobbo however, the details seem a bit lacking.

Anyway, this is a great paint job, I love the tones the skin has and the way you have made him look quite weathered and beaten regardless of teh otherwise "viginial" pink on the skin. By that I mean that pink skin usually represents a kind of softness and you have managed to pull it off here where the ork's skin does not look "soft" but rather "leathered" if youknow what I mean?

as always teh metals rock, and I really like the overal look you have achieved, good job!

I like the way the skin tone changes at the joints
:)

Do you do the green first then the purple?
or do you do them both at the same time?

nice work Seb,

the discolouration of the knuckles and elbows are a nice touch and add a touch of 'realism' to the mini. I haven't done mine, (I think it's a bloody ugly mini!) it's still in its packet. GW seem to have a habit of producing uninspiring limited edition minis and this is one I would consider to be in that category.

This said; you've made a poor mini look good - which is not surprising...

As for it being the painters category mini for 2008, from the discussion I had with Andrew, he was more inclined to ditch this one and use the next years model (something with a two handed warhammer?) as people needed to have a mini that was currently available, not a previous years one.

yeah andrew long said that to me as well - he said he was going to try to use the current year's GD mini in future, rather than the past years...which would mean that this orc would be skipped. But we'll see...it doesn't really make a difference to me, becasue there is no way I will be entering the category unless they come up with a decent mini for once!

mars - in this case I did the green first, and then changed tinted the colour towards a red-mauve colour with glazes.

telstar - thanks for the kind words, I;m glad you like it!

numbat - ok good, someone else likes the base, so it can't be all bad then! ;)
