Hey guys, I know that no Aussie painters are going to France, but I thought you may find the Rules interesting for GD 2007.

Rules:

Categories:

Some interesting things:

- Slayer Sword winners can only enter one single category.
- Only minis and conversions of GW minis, can be entered in the all categories except for open.
- Scratchbuilt minis can only be entered in Open.
- Entries in Open can win the Slayer (well I find a rule that says they can't.)
- There is only one LOTR category, being able to enter a single mini, monster or group.
- There are only 8 categories

The way I see it, is that the competion will be fierce, the worlds best go to France and Only entering one category for slayer winners means that more then likely there will be some of the worlds best leaving empty handed.

I personally think that there will be some amazing entries, with less categories and only one entry from slayer winners, alot of time and effort will be put into their one entry. Quite a smart move I think. The pinnacle of painting excellence just got better.

I believe our rules will be available soon. I spoke to Andrew Long the other day and he said they were more or less complete and would be in white Dwarf, or on the web soon.
Plenty of time for planning :D

I personally think moving the scratchbuilt figures to the Open category is an interesting move. I'm not sure if i'd be for it or against it (not that it matters as I'm not planning to go to France anytime soon) and in line with the idea of GD being a GW event that is actually aimed at showcasing painter's finest possible interpretations of GW figures.

As beautiful as some of the completely scratchbuilt figures are, IMO they are better suited to the open category. What I will find interesting, is where they draw the line between completely scratchbuilt and not completely scratchbuilt. Will a completely scratchbuilt mini, with some small details taken off another mini validate it as not being completely scratchbuilt and thus be able to be entered into a standard GD catergory?

The rule itself seems simple enough, but enforcing it could be somewhat tricky.

thanks for the update on rules for this year Angora :D

I agree with Sean, I am unsure how they will draw the line between how much conversion is allowed before a figure is considered Scratchbuilt.

I believe this is also the first place in the world to restrict Slayer Sword winners in that fashion? I think that will be very interesting! Though going by the previous winners in Europe, the majority of Sword winners seem to aim for a single figure most of the time (I can't think of too many that stretch beyond 2 or 3 entries at most that place, but I could be wrong?).

The US rules are also out and had some interesting changes. Did anyone get a look at them?

The german GD limited previous winners to open for a few years.

I have to say I like the limiting scratchbuilt to open, although I agree it could cause trouble with what counts as scratchbuilt.
