It's been ages but I finally got my act together and took some proper photos of the stuff I'd been painting recently (recently as in the past year ).

Here's Sasia Samaris from my WIP thread:

And the Orc warboss from last year that I took to Games Day LA (very much inspired by Sebastian's one, I have to admit).

Very nice work on both models. I love the bone effect on the claws of Sasia, they look incredible. I also like the jewel effects on the scales of the Orc's loincloth. It's an interesting way to do those. Did you sculpt the rock the snotling is standing on, or was that taken from another model. It looks familiar for some reason.

Thanks Nick! The jewel effect was copied off Sebastian's orc! So I can't take credit for that idea. But it certainly does give the model some nice visual cues on his lower half.

The rocks the snotling is standing on are sculpted. It was a bit of a fudge actually - I had an old base that I slopped a lot of plaster on and shaped into rocks, so I dug it out for the Orc. But the snotling had no even ground to stand on, so I added some greenstuff rocks for him.

hehe cool, I'm glad to see you wheeled out the old mushrooms for the orc! It's so traditional for orcs and goblins...love it :)

The orc looks great, nice and smooth...good colours. I like that jewelled effect oo hehe - it's a bit more extreme than on mine (I had to go back and look at the pics of my one, I couldn't remember!) and I think it works well.

Maybe he is lacking a bit of contrast in some areas. I think you could have afforded to go a darker when shading the metals...I think it's especially important to make sure there are nice dark areas when using metallics. And maybe the flesh could have used a bit of extra shading - maybe some hints of other colours to give it a bit more life?

You did well with the fur around his neck/back - that was a nightmare to paint, I remember...the sculpting was very chinky and poor there, at least on my one!

As for sasia samaris - woooo purple! Same comments really - maybe a bit more action in the flesh, especially, would be good!

Nice to see you posting some minis, andrew :D

Thanks for the comments! I'm working on an Orc at the moment, will try a bit harder to increase the shading and highlights to get a better contrast.

The furry collar was quite rough on mine too, and with the mold line running across it, there was a lot of cleaning and filing involved to get it looking ok. I get the feeling they all suffered from this problem (much like the trollslayer the year before with the dodgy casting on the axe blades).

Oh I posted the Orc on my blog - I tried to link the other Orc bosses you guys have painted, let me know if I missed you out!
