hi guys been playing around with IRIX this weekend and started painting her base and a little bit more progress with her as well.the bottom of the base will be getting a good covering of water effect this week some time and then im going tobe adding some Earth familiars around the base trying to create there own scene.when i started painting her it was just going tobe irix but ive gone a bit overboard and i think it would now be small diarama .well let me know what you think

Here are some more wip pics of Irix. I played around with resin a couple of days ago, for my first time, which went all wrong and turned into a very late night trying to fix it. The resin is not as thick as I wanted it but happy with the look of the base, scary stuff that resin. Still have fair bit to go on Irix trying to finish by this weekend, fingers crossed. Let me know what you think guys.

the very low lying colourful plants kinda need some medium height vegetation to balance it out. Or some taller bits of dead fall or whatever for those low lying bits you have to grow over or to creep down on.

the green static grass areas are just too luscious and green for its surroundings. Either add lots more green bits, or stain the green a bit to make it more parched.

I think what Weisern said about the ground cover is spot on. Love the all over look though it came together great the resin worked out well the only problem I have is the cloud thing under the mini I looks like it could do with some more darker shading and a small blend into the ground colour 8) 8)

Hmm.

I think it needs a lot more foliage/ground cover at differing hights, taller stems with flowers?, some dried weed roots as medium hight cover reaching up from the grown or some moss covered stones? Also some loose mossy ground cover like stuff covering the sections inbetween the other ground foliage and in the deeper areas to break up all the brown. It will also help make the bright green tufts look more natural and not just stuck on as they would be accopanied by more foliage.

I also feel that the mini is lost in the base as its so big I would have made it smaller, maybe only using the taller section she is standing on. I have added am edited pic of what Im trying to say here. I think that if you tightened up your composition then the over all work will be much more effective.

The shaded out area is what I would remove, the darker area at the bottom, I extended the shade to show a tighter composition of the over all piece.

agree with you both about the plants and stuff, were am i able or were would i go to get hold of some bigger plants.now for the cloud vine thingy thats still in white undercoat havent even started painting that coz didnt know what it was ie tree, vine, magic smoke :Dand still have to paint weapon as well.now i made the base big cos im have thoughts of putting some earth familiars on it maybe, its kinda now turned into a diorama.the concept for the base is that i think i watched to much AVATAR.i have also made the same sort of base for spacewolf Nagel but alot smaller last year GD project for 2012.

If you can't get hold of bigger plants, the idea is to use the type of foliage you now have (the mininatur stuff) but drape it over some mid height items, such as a fallen log, large rocks, etc.

To find other sized foliage, check out your local parks, check out the sparse areas where weeds are growing. Look for interesting grass seeds, weeds, moss, etc.

Longer reed length grass you can make yourself using paintbrush hairs (horse not synthetic) - the type of paintbrush used to paint walls.

I have an idea to make it float...

Hide supporting rods withing hanging vines or small waterfalls which connect the lower part of the base with the 'floating' element.

Just remember they must support and balance Shurat, which is quite heavy and has a high centre of gravity.

Also, for balance, i recommend 3 points of support.

Hope this helps

thanks Avatarform that is what i was thinking and for the main support on 1 side of the rock would be a decent size tree with the roots of it leading down to the base.ill see how i go and put pics up soon
