I like it a lot! I kinda feel the hat needs more shading or something - it looks a wee bit flat at present.
I think the texture on the coat is working a treat!

I've only really basecoated the hat at the moment, and glazed it a little to change the colour
So there should be more texture and tone when I've done, the brim at the front definately has some nice creases

And after another hour and a half the shirt and star are mostly done, I'll have to go round and tweak everything later but I think it's almost tiome to start work on the face.

This is so nice to paint, just seems really quick
Spent an hour and a half doing the hat after some role playing
Texture/colours are a little washed out by the lighting but should give the basic idea

Really will have to look at the face next ...

And then some work on the face

Might need a few final tweaks
But mainly I need to get a plint I want to use for it

Last couple of WiP shots for this one I think

The first was taken yesterday with natural light
Just to show how different it can look when the lighting changes

The next was earlier this evening after some final tweaks to the right side of the mouth

Incredible textured style Conrad, I don't know how you manage it.

Looking really good, well done!

Thanks

The bust is now on pause, made a couple of minor tweaks like aligning the left eye but I've put it off to the side for now, I'll have another look when I get round to basing it. So I've started on a piece I picked up at Salute this year, it was given to me by Thomas David (Which was very nice of him) so I felt I should actually try and get it painted varily soon.

I also wanted to go and make a decent scene for him, so the gaming base has been shuffled off to the side and I'm designing a nice scenic setting for him. Seems like quite a while since I really tried to do something different with my basing ....

Another pic of the base
Can you guess what it is yet?

Well, from the size of the little building on the hill, I'd say it's a huge statue like the colossus of Rhodes. So the little sketched bit between his feet that I thought looked like a bug with a long body and little legs would be a boat with oars. Am I close?

Spot on :D
But I've yet to make the oars, or the sails

The base has progressed quite a bit, but still more to do on that (The fiddly bits) and I decided to get some paint on the figure itself. So I blocked the main areas light/dark and then roughly added some bronze metallics to the main body. After that I worked on the sword to make sure I could get a pale stone/ceramic look with a bit of tan and purple colour tint to it.

After that I used some dark browns and greens to shade the metallics back, but the final aim will be to have some quite pale verdigris, so a lot of green and turquoise colour on the main body.

That looks great! I really like the colours you've used in the sword.

Ta

Bit more progress
The base just before I added roofs to the buildings
Still needs sails and oars adding, and maybe tiny blobs for people

And the figure
Concentrating on the "ceramic" parts

Most of the non metallics are now done on the figure
Couple of small bits on the back and the reds need working on.

Also finished adding the sails; and the oars for the boat leaving harbour.
I'll need to tweak the water surface a little and then I can start painting the base

Appologies for the pics being a bit bright

Fantastic stuff! I love the twist on the scale particularly and that sword is fantastic!
