To kick things off, it would be great if people want to say hi and introduce themselves in this thread!

So anyway, I am Andrew, and I am numbat on WAU and CMoN. I enjoy painting and sculpting (well otherwise I wouldn't be here!) and also organising social events to try and promote the hobby (such as the MOAB Painting Competition and the Golden Camel Dinner).

I live in Sydney, and currently work in North Sydney.

Hi I'm Rob, known as Rob_Jedi on CMON, TMP, Frothers, PPForums, WGAU, my neglected website, um most of the web. I also enjoy painting and sculpting and competing. Once in a while I even use the minis to game with.

I also am from Sydney and work near UTS. I'm keen on organising some regular painting and sculpting days to get more sharing of techniques and stuff happening, plus I always get more painted during these things.

Hello everyone,

My name is Kyle Morgan and I am from Sydney, Australia. I am 19 and a full time student (studying Digital Media), when I am not studying, I am painting, gaming or working for Games Workshop part time.

I have been painting for about 8 years, mainly GW miniatures for my various armies. I discovered CMON about 2 years ago and have learnt so much, my skills have improved by a 110%. I absolutely love Golden Demon competions around the world, they are the most inspiring to me. I had the opportunity to enter LA Golden Demon in 2005, where I won Gold in the duel category. This was an experience I will never forget. I also entered the staff category in the Australian GD and came away with another trophy, for my Inquisitor Retinue. I will definitely enter the Australian GD this year and hope I can clean up, winning all the staff categories.

Inspiration for me comes from allot of places. I find the Spanish Team's miniatures to be some of the most inspiring in the world! Some of my other favourite painters being Allan Carrasco, Kirill Kanaev, Joe Hill and Jakob Neilsen and Romain Van Den Bogaert. My dream is to one year go over to Europe and meet all these fantastic painters at a Golden Demon or similar event.

As soon as I get a good camera and learn how to take photos, I will post some pictures here and on CMON. I continually want to get better at painting and modeling and this place seems like a good place to start. :D

Kyle

Hi,

I'm Sean Gray, been painting for a number of years now, but took a major hiatus for the past 3-4 years painting sporadically at best. Have started to get back into things again, kicking it off by throwing my hat in the ring with this years Golden Demon - more to see how I shape up after so long out than having any sort of expectation of possibly placing.. the standard nowadays is just amazing.. Right now I'm at an awkward stage where my mind has wonderful concepts and ideas of what i want to do, but my body wont co-operate and produce what my mind is thinking.. so basically my skills need improving so that they can create some of what my mind is conjuring up

Haven't posted on Cmon, used to be a part of some of the yahoo groups on minipainting but this is my big hurrah to try to get back into things.

Dunno how often i'll get painting just cos of the busy-ness of study (UTS) and work (telco industry) which pretty much means i'm busy 6 days a week doing something work or study related. But i'm trying to find enough time to have something to work on but at this stage painting is more for relaxation & enjoyment than anything.. Still I love to see what people are working on and throw my 2c in with feedback and thoughts.

I think painting/sculpting days would definitely be something I'm interested in - even if it's just to meet with other painters in the area, see what they're working on or have worked on, and talk different techniques and tips. That's part of the hobby that I really dig - learning new things and new ways of getting neat effects

-SG-

I've been painting since 1999. I also enjoy collecting minis from different manufacturers - sometimes I find the time to paint them. I collect and paint GW, Chronopia, reaper, and Rackham figures. One day I would like to get my hands on some Illyad barbarians, Pegaso girls  , and some of the quirky new European sculpts coming out these days.

I'm Zach, i'm 14 and am currently living in Adelaide. I am part of the South Oz Sculptors, with Vic, and have been since the start. Very serious about painting and keen to learn more about sculpting. I'm moving to Perth at the end of this year, so I'm going to try and set up a painting group there. I should be coming up to Sydney for the GDs and the Golden Camels. Hopefully I can meet a couple of you guys in person while i'm up there. Oh and i've won a silver youngbloods Golden Demon, and have also had a model go into the finals for the 'adult' section of GD. Which I was quite happy with. I currently have two models that have made it into the states of this years GD.

Cheers

Zach

Hello everyone,

I am sebastian, automaton on CMON and the forums, and I’m 23. I've been painting for quite a few years...my introduction to the hobby came more than a decade ago, when I was 10 years old and I received the warhammer fantasy box set for christmas haha! The one with the plastic high elves and goblins from the early 90s. Ah, those were the days!

I learnt the basics of painting back then, but I didn't paint much through my later teenage years, and high school...Most of my friends 'outgrew' miniatures and I was left alone, so my interest also waned. I don't think I painted anything from ages 14 or 15 through to 19 or 20, after I left school.

But then, the lord of the rings films were released!!! I have always been a huge tolkien fanatic, and I was blown away when the movies came out...so good! I remember going to see the fellowship of the ring as part of an all night movie marathon on the first weekend the movie was released, because it was the only tickets we could find that weren't sold out haha. I didn't know what to expect....but then as it began, it was so amazing, I can't explain the feeling - I was hooked! haha :P

So, this enthusiasm reawakened my desire for miniatures, especially when I saw the GW had released the new lotr miniatures. Again I got some miniatures for christmas haha - this time the fellowship box set - and I got back into painting in a big way! This was the time when I really learnt to paint...I had the basics from my earlier days, but I wanted to push onto better things, and my enthusiasm for lotr helped. The desire to increase my painting level drove me online, where I discovered the huge leaps that painting had taken in my absence! The creativity and skill of painters around the world - finally able to see each others work through the Internet and digital cameras - had soared to tremendous heights, and I was inspired to learn!

And then when the Golden Demon came around in 2005, I decided the time had come to try again. This time I was more prepared, and I started earlier! Although I still didn't finish my miniature until the night before the entry date haha. I really learnt a lot painting this entry, as I tried to go all out and paint to the best of my ability. But the success I had was an enormous surprise – I really had no inkling that it could happen, it was the greatest honour of my life!

The real benefit of the GD for me that year, however, was meeting lots of the fantastic painters from around Australia and New Zealand, and getting lots of new friends. Finally I’m not alone in the hobby, as I was before! And that fact has really pushed me on and kept up my drive and enthusiasm for improvement since then.

At the moment I am a uni student, but I still find plenty of time for painting. I am most inspired by the painting of the Spanish team – particularly Alfonso (banshee), Fernando (nano) and Albert. I am also a huge admirer of the amazing French painters – my favourite painter of all must be the master, Allan Carrasco. My dream, like kyle, is to go to one of the European GDs to meet some of my painting idols, and to compete against the best.

Sorry for the life story haha, once I started it just all spilled out! :P

Best regards,

-sebastian

Man this thread sounds like Perfect match??... oopppsss just gave away my age :)

Gav 'slardy' Clarke.... mini painter and prominent player on the warhammer tourny scene in AUS/NZ.... looking forward to this being a really positive informative OZ influenced forum on painting :) I love a laugh and unlike the rest of you plebs who are influenced by this french dude or that; my biggest influences are the Reverend Jack Daniels and his good ol buddy Dr Jim Beam

Gav :)

Hey all

My name is Ben I’m 17 I have been a part of the southern sculptors since I helped Vic set it up. Since the club started I have become good friends with all those who have come along and it has really become the only time I do any work! I hope this website can be a great tool for Australian painters to meet up and get to know one and other and share ideas complaints experience etc.

I have been painting and collecting since I was about 10 and it was always the creative side of the hobby painting, making terrain and lately sculpting that I have always enjoyed.

My main interest at the moment is my sculpting and I have been working really hard to improve my skills (Vic can attest to that)

That’s all from me folks and look forward to getting to know some of you a little better.

Hello all!

My name is Jordy, I'm 20 and have been painting for about 7 years now! Its good to finally have an Oz painting forum cause I'm sick of lurking around the Polish and German ones... :P I go by the same name on CMON and WAU. I'm currently living in Geelong (whoop whoop) so quality painters and gamers are hard to come by... Its good to become part of this community!

Cheers guys,

GMD

Hi...

David Redmond here. Big Red on WAU and CMoN.

Glad to see that there's a new OZ site dedicated to our hobby. Also, good to see many familar names here.

Me: Statrted the whole process when I was much younger by painting my plastic Airfix soldiers. Continued on with GW/AD&D minis in my teenage years and then moved into 40K minis when they released 40K Rogue Trader. Been hooked with painting their minis ever since. I'm more of a painter than a player but I do play 40K, Fantasy, Epic and Warmaster.

As with GMD, I live in Geelong and we get together every now and then and have a painting session - it's a great way to bounce ideas around and spur each other on.

welcome everyone, it's good to see you here - I'm glad you found the new forum!

I look forward to seeing your work and having some good painting discussions. THings will start slowly, but hopefully these forums will take off more November. I'll add some sort of painting article or tutorial or something in the painting section after GD, to try to kick things off!

G'Day,
My name is Ralph Cook I'm 36 (is that too old to still be painting?).I started painting when I was 16 then stopped for a few years when I discovered parties and my wife. I started again when GW opened in Chatswood and have entered every Golden Demon except the last few (work and children are soooo time consuming...in a good way). I haven't picked up a brush in 2 years but seeing the amazing standard our OZ painters have reached these days and this forum has inspired me to pull my thumb out even if its only 5 minutes here and there. I look forward to seeing everyones great work and get some tips along the way.
Regards
RC

Hi everyone it is great to hear about everyone's different backgrounds!

And Ralph, I would love to see your dioramas/vignettes again one day, I remember when I first entered Demons, your Altdorf diorama was just inspiring! As Rob and I were discussing last night, you just don't see enough box dioramas these days (anyone remember Helen Grant from Hobby Co. and her fantastic dioramas from the 80's?).
