I thought these things were supposed to be matt? Coz mine sure aint, I did water it down though... weird. Anyway its not really a problem its just I wasn't planning on testoring this one and I'll have to now.

Automaton: those painted pics on the (Heroquest) box were awesome! I looked at them as virtually an unattainable goal in painting, haha...

I take it you are referring to the new washes?
I bought the whole set and all of them are matt, not a hint of gloss anywhere.
Maybe adding water does something to them?

cheers,
Tony

I had that problem, too - diluting those washes seems to bring out their glossiness. Try simply slathering the washes on - that works well, and them dry to a matt finish that way. The only problem is, using this method, they don't last long at all.

Its is funny, I have found the same thing Trevor. I added layers of wash and it did go a bit shiny. I think it has this effect when adding water and layers. I had to do the same with testor dull coate on my last project. I did overcome this a bit by adding tiny amounts of normal paint into the wash to dull it back down.

I noticed this week as well that when they are thinned or lots of layers they go shiny. It's weird that when used straight out of the bottle they are matt. I guess as long as you know it is going to happen you can plan for it a bit though.

Since i've done quite a lot of painting in the last week on my marine army and orkz i've used quite a bit of the washes.

On the orkz i've had some glossyness but it ain't that hard once you finish a few to just brush matte medium over the mini. Like a matte medium/water 20/80.
