Oz Painters

left one by Quinton, middle by me, right one by weisern. We did these today in 4 hours. They are for Quinton's behemoth orcs.

We used tan bark for the rocks. Weisern used some cork on his. The snow was Jo Sonja's texture paste. Very easy to use, with the result looking like soft snow with no crystalline appearance.

We were taunting each other on whose was best. So what do you reckon?

I voted for yours mark, I just like the flat barrenness of it
The piece of bark you used has a wonderful cracked texture to the top
I like the way it works down one corner, and the browns and green add nicely

That siad wiesern definately has the long grass done better
It's been spread a bit more, and the snow on it is more noticeable

I chose Weisern's because it's more balanced and the majority of it isn't overhanging, I don't like bases that overhang a lot.

Edit: Oh yeah also, Weisern's one has a bit of the actual ground showing in the corner which I really like. Good job everyone.

hahaha, got you so far Mark We set this poll for 30 days.

I really like the creep down rock on Mark's, seen on the top 2 and bottom most angles.

The grass was a tip from Seb, to use bristles from paint brushes used for painting your house walls. Much more manageable than toothbrush bristles, what was I thinking

I like the touch of colour it has in the crevices - they are all great though!

Hey Pete, no need to apologise. I'm still 8 to 2 and feeling cocky. There was much jovial teasing and sky-larking on the day for this silly impromptu poll, added on later after the post.

So, have any of you tried this texture paste yet? Its cheap and great to work with. 250ml pot for ~$12. Sold in Australia at Lincraft, Riot art & craft, Bunnings.

I like your base weisern, the way the snow is piled with the wet look around it seems very natural.

I tried to find the paste, but all they had in the stores I went to was black texture paste

But maybe it can be used for like tar or something.

Haven't tried it yet, although I was in lincraft yesterday, and I did see some of the Jo Sonja textured paste.

I wasn't exactly sure which one to buy.
There were pumice textures, sand etc.
Which one did you guys use?

Looks good to me, I had to vote for weisern's for a couple of reasons.

The general interesting shapes of the rock stand out a bit more than the others. And the snow on the snowy tops of the grass part looks pretty cool too.

Also the green and brown tones worked into the recesses look ace.

I didn't know Jo Sonja's made pumice texture paint. If its new then you're lucky. The only pumice texture paint source I know is Mind Games and its like $25 for a 250ml pot, so that put me off.

I also use the texture paste for its original intended purpose, but find the roughness a bit fine. That's why your pumice note has got my attention, because the ones in Mind Games I checked out, by Vallejo was nice and rough:

Andrew, that's odd. All the Bunnings, Lincraft, Riot here have ample supply of the white texture paste.

come on people the middle one is clearly the best..... dont get fooled by Weiserns statuer in the oz painters web site...... ummm whats the going rate for bribery these days?

hey...i chose wiesern's because it drew my attention first. It doesn't overhang the side of the base and the more snow won my vote.

Easy to use, no mixing, applied with toothpick..... Excellent

I voted for yours Mark, I agree Weisern's grass looks more realistic, but I really dig the subtle colours in the recesses. Should look even better with minis on top!
