This may be another symbol of the martyrdom of St Edmund. The badge shows a bundle of arrows held by a knotted belt.
Badge making did not only serve a religious market. It occupied a position in all aspects of life as for example, political and military to show allegiance, celebrate amorous intent, and indicate sporting interests, often with a satirical flavour.
