A tall, footed wooden mortar and pestle great for grinding dry herbs and spices.


  • Mortar:  approximately 15cm diameter and 25 cm high. 
  • Pestle:  approximately 20cm long and 8cm diameter base

Mortar and pestles were an indispensable piece of medieval equipment both in the home and in workshops. Examples have been found made of stone ware, wood, stone, and cast from metal such as brass, copper and lead. This mortar and pestle would be useful for grinding dry spices and herbs in the kitchen or the still room.
