Author:
Goubitz, Olaf.
Summary:
This study of 120 pages length is an encyclopedia of leather holders, especially money holders. Every purse that has been found in an archaeological context in the Netherlands is published in this book. All the techniques are discussed and many iconographical references are presented. Because leather objects from this period do not vary very much in North Western Europe and North America, you will find what you need to know about all the different manifestations of purses.

Staff Comments:
Superb text from Olaf Goubitz (author of Stepping through Time), and sadly the last; Olaf Goubitz passed away in August 07. Detailed black and white diagrams, line drawings and photographs of the extant finds with detailed discourse as to the materials and techniques used in construction for pouches, and other domestic leather items including bottles, needles, books and spectacles. Bibliography is select and refers mainly to non-english articles and texts however, it is still an interesting guide as well as a sample of Goubitzs professional publications.
